2017 Excellence Awards

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2017 ACFE RI Excellence Awards.  We honored our excellence award recipient and our speaker of the year.  We also awarded our annual scholarship, congratulated new CFEs, and had some great training.

2017 ACFE RI Excellence Award

This year, we are pleased to honor Matthew Amsden Special Agent, Internal Revenue Service—Criminal Investigations. Special Agent Amsden was selected for his work in a case involving $2.6M Identity Theft and Tax Fraud Scheme perpetrated by a Pawtucket supermarket owner. 

Each year, our Excellence awards honors an individual or individuals who have: played a significant role in the prevention, detection, or investigation of fraud;  made a substantial recovery or savings due to his or her role in a fraud examination; contributed significantly to the discipline of fraud examination; developed innovative techniques in the white-collar crime field; submitted legislation to detect and prevent fraud; or, educated others in the field of fraud examination. We ask that you consider submitting for our consideration any candidates who have played such a role.  Please email us with your nominations.

2017 ACFE RI Speaker of the Year Award

RI State Police Investigator Lori Tellier co-presented in December 2016 on Elder Financial Abuse & Insurance Industry Fraud. The presentation included several interesting cases and insights drawn from each case. The Chapter thanks Lori for her willingness to serve her professional colleagues presenting this material.

2017 ACFE RI Scholarship Award

Briana Holley was awarded the $2,500 ACFE RI Chapter Scholarship.  Briana Holley will graduate in Spring 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Johnson & Wales University, a full year ahead of schedule. In the past two years, she has been involved with five on-campus organizations and has held the position of President for the Criminal Justice Association. An active member of her community and campus, she receives the Johnson & Wales Student Leader of the Year Award for 2017-18.CONGRATULATIONS, BRIANA!!!
